‘Definitely’ – Former Chelsea star backs huge Man Utd transfer
William Gallas believes Cole Palmer will “definitely” join Manchester United in the future, although the former Chelsea defender does not expect a move this summer.
Palmer’s potential move to United has sparked more speculation after Gallas suggested another outstanding season at Stamford Bridge could open the door to a move.
Palmer grew up supporting United despite spending 13 years in Manchester City’s academy before moving to Chelsea for £42.5million in 2023.
Speaking to iPredicta, Gallas insisted the 24-year-old should remain at Chelsea for now. However, he believes Palmer could eventually pursue a move to Old Trafford if playing for United remains a personal ambition.
“I don’t think it’s time to go right now,” Gallas said. He added that Palmer should have “one more big season” before considering his next step.
Gallas’ condition is straightforward: Palmer needs to rediscover his best level at Chelsea before any future move should be considered.
The England international endured a more difficult campaign last season as Chelsea finished outside the European places. Gallas therefore believes another season resembling Palmer’s breakthrough years at Stamford Bridge would put him in a stronger position to make a major career decision.
There is currently no suggestion that Manchester United and Chelsea are negotiating a transfer. Gallas’ comments are his own prediction rather than evidence of an active approach, which is an important distinction.
However, Palmer’s connection with Manchester United returned to attention following Andrey Santos’ move from Chelsea to Old Trafford. Santos revealed that his former team-mate contacted him after the transfer and wished him well, while also referencing Palmer’s knowledge of Manchester.
United remain active in the market under Michael Carrick. ReadManUtd reported on Sunday that the club are still assessing additions across three positions, despite already signing Santos and Youri Tielemans this summer.
Palmer would represent a completely different level of deal, though, and there is nothing to suggest one is imminent.
For now, Gallas expects him to remain at Chelsea. His prediction is simply that another outstanding season could eventually bring Palmer’s boyhood club into the conversation.
