Klay Thompson's future with the Dallas Mavericks remains uncertain, raising the possibility that he could be playing for a new team next season.
According to Christian Clark of The Athletic, the Mavericks have explored Thompson's trade market but have yet to find a suitable deal.
"At this point, it remains unclear if Klay Thompson – the Mavericks' leading 3-point shooter in each of the past two seasons – will be back in Dallas for a third year," Clark wrote.
"The Mavericks have explored his trade market but have yet to find a deal, multiple sources with rival teams told The Athletic."
Thompson would welcome Los Angeles return

While the report did not specifically identify the Los Angeles Lakers as Thompson's preferred destination, Clark noted that the four-time NBA champion would be open to returning to the city.
"My understanding is that Thompson would welcome a return to Los Angeles, where he spent part of his childhood and still owns a home," Clark wrote.
The Lakers have previously been linked with Thompson, who considered joining the franchise before signing with Dallas in 2024.
A potential move would give Los Angeles another proven perimeter shooter capable of playing alongside Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. However, there is currently no indication that the Lakers and Mavericks have held trade discussions involving Thompson.
Heat also mentioned as potential destination
Los Angeles is not the only possible landing spot for the future Hall of Famer.
"The Miami Heat are another team frequently mentioned in NBA circles as a potential landing spot for the future Hall of Famer," Clark added.
Thompson is owed $17.5 million for the 2026-27 season and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2027.
Dallas could therefore explore moving the veteran shooter rather than risk losing him without receiving any assets in return next offseason.
Thompson spent the first 11 seasons of his NBA career with the Golden State Warriors, winning four championships alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green before moving to Dallas.
