Multiple former Leeds United players have ended up at clubs no one would have expected them to this summer.
Goalkeeper Karl Darlow signed for Manchester United as a free agent. When he initially signed for us back in 2023, nobody would have guessed that at 35, Darlow would make the switch to our bitter rivals.
It always seemed obvious that Crysencio Summerville would leave West Ham this summer. But everybody was surprised to see him sign for Al-Hilal for £68million. Moving to the Saudi Pro League at just 24.
Now, another former Leeds player appears to be on the brink of making an eyebrow-raising move, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Glen Kamara agrees to Championship move per Fabrizio Romano
It’s almost easy to forget that Glen Kamara was a Leeds player at one stage.
The Finnish international joined Leeds from Rangers back in 2023 for £5million in the summer of Daniel Farke’s first season in charge. Kamara’s stay in West Yorkshire lasted just one season, but in the 2023/24 campaign, he featured regularly, making 37 Championship appearances.
This campaign ultimately ended in heartbreak as we lost in the play-off final to Southampton. That summer, Leeds sold Kamara to Ligue 1 outfit Rennes for £8.6million.
So whilst Leeds made a tidy profit, they also lost one of their key players. But for one reason or another, Kamara’s move to France never worked out.
During the first half of the 2024/25 campaign with Rennes, Kamara made 13 Ligue appearances. That January, however, he was loaned out to Al-Shabab for the remainder of the season.
Kamara then returned to Rennes. Last season, he made just four Ligue 1 appearances, with none of those being starts.
Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, Kamara looks set to leave France to return to the Championship with QPR.
A deal has been agreed, with it being an initial loan with an option to buy. The deal is said to be at the paperwork stage.
So just two years after impressing for Leeds, Kamara looks set to join a Championship team that has been stuck in mid-table for multiple years at this point.
Leeds news regarding a midfielder has gone quiet
So whilst a former Leeds midfielder is on the brink of a move, it has all gone quiet regarding the Whites signing another midfielder of their own this summer.
We know United’s offer for Shea Charles remains on the table should Southampton reconsider their stance. But at this point, this seems unlikely.
There has also been a lack of alternatives mentioned recently, with the focus seeming to switch to other areas of the pitch.
Striker is certainly an area we are focused on reinforcing, as well as the goalkeeping department.
With the Julian Brandt deal slipping through our fingers, the 49ers may look to add another winger/number ten to our ranks too.
These are all positions I’d look to strengthen before signing another midfielder, so in terms of our engine room it looks as if it will be as you were ahead of next season.
