Manchester United could soon receive one of the most unexpected transfer enquiries of the summer.
According to The Sun, Fenerbahce are ready to break the bank to lure Marcus Rashford to Turkey in one of the biggest moves of the summer.
The Turkish giants also have AC Milan winger Rafael Leao and Crystal Palace forward Ismaila Sarr on their transfer shortlist.
Rashford is set to return to Carrington after Barcelona decided against triggering the £26 million buy clause in his loan agreement.
The 28-year-old is currently enjoying an extended break following the FIFA World Cup and is expected to report back to Carrington next week.
Rashford unlikely to move to Fenerbahce
Despite the growing speculation, a move to Turkey still appears highly unlikely at this stage.
The England international still aspires to represent one of the top European clubs.
With all due respect to Fenerbahce’s stature, they do not currently possess the same global appeal as clubs such as Barcelona or Bayern Munich.
As things stand, Rashford appears increasingly likely to receive another opportunity under head coach Michael Carrick.
Carrick knows the forward better than almost anyone, having played alongside him when Rashford burst into the first team under Louis van Gaal.
The United manager also coached him during the reigns of Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
INEOS would still prefer to sanction a permanent departure because Rashford remains one of the highest earners at the club, taking home more than £300,000 per week.
Although Fenerbahce may have little difficulty agreeing a transfer fee with United, the deal is unlikely to progress unless Rashford himself is willing to embrace a move to Turkey.
