The Portland Trail Blazers have hired Ameer Bahhur as the head coach of the Rip City Remix, the franchise’s G League affiliate, according to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.
Bahhur spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach with the Orlando Magic on head coach Jamahl Mosley’s staff. He joined the Magic in 2022, spending his first two seasons with the franchise as head video coordinator. During the 2021-2022 season, Bahhur served as an assistant coach for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets.
Bahhur is now the Remix’s fourth head coach in their first four seasons as a G League franchise. He replaces Jonah Herscu in the position, who left the Trail Blazers organization to become an assistant coach on Tiago Splitter’s new staff with the Chicago Bulls.
Additionally, the Trail Blazers have hired James Brocato as director of basketball innovation, Scotto reported.
Brocato joins Portland by way of the Dallas Mavericks, where he served as the franchise’s director of basketball analytics since 2015. He joined the Mavericks in 2013, holding analytics associate and consultant roles before leading the department, according to his LinkedIn.
Brocato replaces Alexander Powell, who held the position for two seasons before departing in April to become the executive director of basketball at Duke University.
