Warriors predicted to sign $342M elite scorer, 3-time All-Star to form nasty duo with Steph Curry image
The Golden State Warriors have had an offseason that makes sense based on where they are in their current roster construction. The team’s core players are aging, and the end of their careers appears to be approaching.
Golden State did everything it could to land LeBron James, but ultimately came up short. Shortly after missing out on James, the Warriors brought back Draymond Green.
“Draymond Green has agreed to return to the Golden State Warriors on a one-year, $27.7 million deal, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul tells ESPN. The contract is the same Green opted out of to give the Warriors flexibility to pursue LeBron James, but the sides land his return Tuesday," ESPN Shams Charania wrote.
The Warriors missing out on James was a difficult reality to accept, especially after Green opted out of his contract to help create the flexibility needed for the pursuit. Golden State has continued to keep familiar faces around for next season, as the team has not made a major move to bring in a new star.
“The Warriors are officially running it back despite missing the playoffs last season. Golden State re-signed Draymond Green, Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton, and Gary Payton II this summer,” NBA writer Jake Weinbach posted.
However, there could still be an opportunity for Golden State to add a new face to the roster. Blue Man Hoop’s G.C. Bellchamber believes the Warriors could be a team to watch for Bradley Beal.
“But there's also room to argue that a backcourt addition is more pressing given their depth beyond Stephen Curry. As of now, they have Brandin Podziemski, De'Anthony Melton, and LJ Cryer to fill out their guard rotation, while Will Richard will play the two-spot at times. As long as that need remains open, Bradley Beal is worth taking a look at— even if that would be a polarizing addition at this point in the offseason. But if it works out from a financial perspective, Beal could be the exact type of offensive burst Golden State needs off the bench,” Bellchamber wrote.
The Warriors are in need of another offensive weapon and a new presence in the locker room. If Beal can stay healthy, he could provide a major boost to the team. Adding another elite scorer and shooter alongside Curry would give Golden State another dangerous offensive option.
Beal has earned $342 million throughout his NBA career. The Warriors understand they may not currently be true title contenders, but adding Beal could help turn them into a legitimate playoff threat.
