The blockbuster entry of LeBron James has fully solidified the Philadelphia 76ers as a formidable team and a massive threat in the NBA, but Byron Scott remains unconvinced that a championship is easily guaranteed for the franchise next year.
On his "Byron Scott's Fast Break" podcast, the Los Angeles Lakers legend claimed that while the 76ers look good on paper with James' addition, expectations must be tempered about Philly easily winning it all.
Using the ill-fated 2003-04 Lakers as an example, Scott said the new-look 76ers with James are still not assured of claiming an NBA title.
“I mean we can go all the way back to the early parts in the 2000s. You got Karl Malone, Gary Payton, Kobe Bryant, Shaq [O'Neal], and you still got [Derek Fisher], you know, you still got an unbelievable starting lineup. And on paper, everybody said, 'Oh, they going to win a championship.' What happened? They played Detroit Pistons, who was a team, much better team, a much better cohesive group of guys who wanted nothing more than to win. And you had friction on that Laker team with Gary Payton and some of the other guys. And then you had the Peacemaker Karl Malone. And then Karl got hurt which really killed their chances of winning the championship and Detroit went through them four games to one. Right? So talent on paper don’t mean a whole lot.
"It means you got talent. That’s about all it means. It doesn’t mean or guarantee that you going to win the championship.”

Talented 76ers still set to mesh for next season
The hype is off the charts for the Philadelphia 76ers heading to next season. After landing Jaylen Brown in a stunning trade with the Boston Celtics, Philly followed it up with a marquee free-agency signing of LeBron James.
With Brown and James joining forces with the Sixers' homegrown core of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe, many view the East powerhouse as a force to reckon with across the league.
In the end, while the Sixers are truly stuffed with talent and potential, plenty of adjustments and early struggles are still expected. With Philly having four stars who averaged 20+ points per game last year, it would be intriguing to see which one takes a step back and how Nick Nurse will balance the team's offensive system.
Besides, health also plays a major factor, with Philadelphia hoping that Embiid can finally stay healthy after playing no more than 39 games in each of the past three seasons.
Amid anticipation of everyone regarding their play next season, the 76ers still have to take everything one step at a time to fulfill their championship potential headlined by their star-studded five-man squad.
