Michael Carrick will see a key test in his Manchester United managerial reign against defending Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday.

The Red Devils will return to action at the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg and the pre-season friendly match against French side PSG will kick off at 4pm UK time.

The history between Man Utd and PSG in the pre- and post-Sir Alex Ferguson era at Old Trafford

Since Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out of Old Trafford in 2013, the Red Devils have crossed paths with Paris Saint-Germain five times on the pitch.

Manchester United had not faced PSG in a competitive competition or pre-season friendly before Ferguson stepped down from the Old Trafford hot seat.

Man Utd have faced PSG a total of five times since 2015, with Louis van Gaal being the first Red Devils boss to take on the Ligue 1 club.

Four of Manchester United’s five encounters with the French side have come in the Champions League during the reign of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford.

PSG have won three of their five fixtures against the Red Devils, while Man Utd have walked away with two wins from their head-to-head battles with the French side.

Michael Carrick’s history with PSG ahead of Man Utd’s pre-season friendly match

Michael Carrick was still playing at Old Trafford after legendary former United manager Ferguson called it time on his historic reign at the Premier League club.

However, the 45-year-old United legend did not feature in the International Champions Cup match under former Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal.

Carrick does have experience with PSG after he was a key part of the United coaching staff under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during the Champions League matches.
