The Denver Nuggets are reportedly drawing attention from teams across the NBA due to uncertainty surrounding their future direction.
With Nikola Jokic's extension status playing a key role, the franchise has become a team many are closely monitoring, according to NBA insider Marc Stein on the DNVR Nuggets Podcast.
"There are a lot of eyeballs on the Denver Nuggets right now league-wide," Stein revealed. "There is a lot of curiosity about where this team is going and, let's face it, [Nikola] Jokic could have signed an extension for the second straight summer and did not. And even if that is 1,000% motivated by the finances involved, it's still going to get other teams whispering, monitoring — you know, pick your adjective — but this is going to be a topic.
"It just is. There's no way around it. So, yes, I think there is a great deal of external interest beyond the 303 in the Denver Nuggets in the 2026-27 season."
Nuggets under league-wide monitoring amid true direction, Nikola Jokic extension
Coming off a highly disappointing first-round exit in the past postseason, the Denver Nuggets find themselves significantly limited in their offseason movement due to having one of the most expensive payrolls in the NBA.
Their restricted free agency with Peyton Watson has yet to generate a key development, as the talented wing is seeking a massive contract and has drawn plenty of consideration from rival teams.
As such, Nikola Jokic is currently eligible for a four-year, $278 million to $280 million supermax contract extension. But like last year, the Serbian superstar is turning down a lucrative deal this summer, opting to pursue a much bigger payday next offseason, where he can sign a contract that will allow him to make $80 million at age 37.
Stuck with their current core while dealing with noise surrounding Jokic's hesitancy to sign an extension until next year, the pressure is truly on for the Nuggets heading into the upcoming new season.
