📰 News we're reading
1. Study: San Antonio metro ranks as one of nation's best real estate markets for homebuyers (sacurrent.com) — If you're house-hunting in the San Antonio area, current data shows this metro is one of the nation's most buyer-friendly markets, with many listings already discounted and homes sitting on the market for weeks. A new study finds San Antonio ranks near the top nationally for price cuts and lower sale-to-list ratios, partly due to high mortgage rates and earlier overbuilding across Texas.
2. Spurs arena ballot battle: Mayor calls for city residents to vote on contribution (news4sanantonio.com) — San Antonio's mayor wants city voters to decide whether to approve up to $489 million in revenue bonds for a new Spurs arena, on top of Bexar County's earlier $311 million commitment. The proposal has sparked debate over taxpayer responsibility, budget pressures, and what community benefits and protections the city should demand before locking in long-term arena financing.
3. How gas prices have changed in San Antonio in the last week (easttexastoday.com) — Drivers in the San Antonio metro are paying about $3.54 for regular gas right now, a noticeable drop from last week but still much higher than a year ago. New AAA data shows local prices are slightly below the Texas average, while diesel has climbed sharply over the past year and remains above $5 per gallon.
4. Friend remembers San Antonio woman killed in Pakistan avalanche as 'one of the kindest spirits' (ksat.com) — A 39-year-old San Antonio native, Mallory Geis, has been identified among 10 climbers killed in an avalanche on Pakistan's Broad Peak, leaving family and longtime local friends grieving. Loved ones remember the St. Mary's Hall graduate and former Pilates studio owner for her kindness, adventurous spirit, and the joy she found in mountaineering around the world.
