‘Untouchable’ – Newcastle respond to Man Utd transfer plans
Manchester United have been handed a major obstacle in their pursuit of Lewis Hall after Newcastle United reportedly made it clear the defender will not be sold this summer.
The latest update comes as Michael Carrick’s side were preparing to open talks over a potential move.
Hall has emerged as United’s leading option at left-back as Carrick looks for a long-term successor to Luke Shaw.
The 21-year-old is also understood to be keen on moving to Old Trafford, giving United encouragement despite Newcastle’s increasingly firm position.
ReadManUtd previously reported that Carrick has made Hall his leading defensive target, with the England international viewed as someone capable of securing the position for several seasons.

Mark Douglas and Pete Hall report that Newcastle are adamant Hall will not leave during the current transfer window.
The Magpies reportedly regard the defender as “untouchable” and want to strengthen around Hall and Tino Livramento rather than sanction another major departure.
That stance arrives at an awkward moment for United.
United had been planning to begin discussions with Newcastle this week, while Hall remains interested in the possibility of playing Champions League football at Old Trafford.
Sky Sports has also confirmed that United are exploring a move for Hall, having monitored the former Chelsea defender for several months.
However, Newcastle hold a strong negotiating position.
Hall is contracted until 2029 and has developed into one of their most valuable young players. The club have also endured significant upheaval this summer, making another high-profile departure particularly difficult to sanction.
United must now decide how hard they are prepared to push.
Hall’s willingness to move keeps the possibility alive, but Newcastle’s stance means Carrick may eventually have to turn towards one of the alternative left-backs on United’s shortlist.
