Manchester United have announced a multi-year training kit sponsorship agreement with Betway, worth around £18million per season.
United have just gone a full season without a training kit sponsor for the first time since 2021/22, but they have struck a deal with Betway to sponsor training apparel starting from the new campaign.
The new agreement, worth around £18m per year, will see the Betway logo feature on the training kits of United’s men’s and women’s teams. The gambling company's branding will also feature prominently on matchdays at Old Trafford and the Progress with Unity Stadium.
United believe they have struck a substantial commercial deal that will allow them to reinvest in the club to help win major trophies.
The deal is bigger than any other standalone training kit or playing shirt sleeve deals in world football, however, it is still worth less than United's previous agreement with Tezos, which was worth around £24m per season.
Following the conclusion of the Tezos contract, United chiefs were prepared to go a season without a training kit sponsor to agree a new deal in a position of strength following the return to the Champions League.
In a statement, Marc Armstrong, chief business officer at United, said: "We are delighted to welcome Betway as official principal partner.
"The scale of our exciting new partnership reflects our growth strategy, the enduring global strength and appeal of Manchester United, and our ability to attract leading brands that want to engage with our vast worldwide fanbase.
"Betway are a world-renowned brand with significant presence across world sport. We look forward to working together to help accelerate their global ambitions and create new opportunities to bring supporters closer to Manchester United."
Neal Menashe, the chief executive officer of Super Group, who own Betway, said: “We are thrilled that our Betway brand will be the official principal partner and exclusive global betting partner of one of the world’s biggest football clubs.
"Manchester United’s global reach, particularly with their massive fanbase across Africa, aligns perfectly with our key markets.
“The Premier League is the world’s most-watched domestic football competition and provides a powerful platform to connect with fans globally. We’re excited to see the Betway brand showcased at Old Trafford, and beyond, as part of our ongoing presence in English football’s top flight.”
Three years ago, Premier League clubs voted to withdraw gambling sponsorship from the front of matchday shirts.
The voluntary ban will come into effect in 2026/27, but the new rules did not extend to training kit sponsorship, meaning gambling companies are free to pay to have their brand names displayed on training kits.
United held discussions with other potential training kit sponsors ahead of the conclusion of their deal with Tezos last year, but the club believed it would be best to hold out for more suitable offers.
