Off-court matters aside, the Portland Trail Blazers are looking ready for the upcoming season. They will look to build on the momentum from their surprise run to the playoffs last season.
The Blazers could remain a dark horse in the Western Conference. They have a solid roster, led by the proven core of Damian Lillard, Ja Morant, Jrue Holiday, and Deni Avdija. They have a strong supporting cast, featuring Shaedon Sharpe, Donovan Clingan, Toumani Camara, and Scoot Henderson.
Portland could add another weapon as it is rumored to be eyeing DeMar DeRozan, arguably the best player available in free agency. The Stein Line's Marc Stein, however, refuted it.
“Portland is not currently pursuing free agent swingman DeMar DeRozan, league sources say, despite reports to the contrary,” wrote Stein on his Substack.

The six-time All-Star asked the Sacramento Kings to release him after two seasons. The Kings obliged, waiving him on July 6. Since then, DeRozan has been linked to multiple teams, including the Miami Heat, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Toronto Raptors, the Denver Nuggets, and the Washington Wizards.
The 36-year-old star is still looking for his first championship, and he would like to sign with a serious contender. While the Trail Blazers have a talented lineup, they are already loaded in the backcourt. The offense could also feel congested if the team has DeRozan, Lillard, Morant, Avdija, and Sharpe.
Last season, DeRozan averaged 18.4 points, his lowest since his fourth season, 2.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.0 steals in 77 games. It was his fifth straight year of playing at least 74 games, a testament to his durability.
