Manchester United are looking for a new striker who could complement Benjamin Sesko.
According to The Athletic, Man United are weighing up the striker market but are not expected to make a move for Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins.
The Red Devils had a keen interest in signing the Englishman last summer before they ultimately chose to recruit Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.
Villa wanted around £60 million to sanction his exit, a fee deemed too high by INEOS for a 29-year-old.
Watkins has bagged 108 goals in 280 appearances for Villa over the last six years.
Sesko enjoyed a superb debut season in Manchester, netting a joint-highest 11 league goals for the club.
With Champions League football returning, United believe another high-quality forward is essential to ease the workload on the Slovenian.
Sesko featured in 30 Premier League games last campaign but started only 17.
Several appearances came from the bench because of tactical decisions and minor fitness concerns.
His campaign also ended prematurely after aggravating a shin injury against Liverpool in May.
The expectation is now that Sesko can build on his promising debut season and finally break the 20-goal barrier across all competitions.
Whenever he was unavailable, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo both demonstrated they could operate effectively through the middle.
That flexibility could encourage manager Michael Carrick to continue using a fluid attacking system rather than relying solely on a traditional centre-forward.
Much could also depend on Marcus Rashford, who is expected to report back to Carrington next week following his extended break.
Having said that, United would be wise to recruit another striker or versatile winger to strengthen their attacking depth.
A couple of injuries at the wrong time could leave Carrick desperately short of options during the busiest period of the campaign.
INEOS must ensure the squad has enough firepower to compete on multiple fronts if United are to challenge for major honours this season.
