The NBA offseason is not complete without Ben Simmons' name popping up in the rumor mill. It has become a yearly tradition, much like Kevin Durant trolling fans on X.
Simmons has not played since the 2024-2025 season, appearing in 18 games for the Los Angeles Clippers. He averaged 2.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 16.4 minutes. It has been quite the downfall for the do-it-all guard, who was once among the league's top players.
Some claim that the 30-year-old Simmons is eyeing a comeback, preferably a return to the Philadelphia 76ers. ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel, however, noted the impossibility of it.
“The 76ers are only $1.8 million below their first apron hard cap. There's been no talk of them getting rid of anyone on their current roster, and therefore, they can't sign Simmons or someone else to a minimum,” explained Siegel on X.

Simmons had his best years in Philadelphia, which drafted him with the No. 1 pick in 2016. In his four seasons with the Sixers, he became a Rookie of the Year, a three-time All-Star, a one-time All-NBA Team member, and a two-time All-Defensive Team member. He averaged 13.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 7.4 assists, and 1.5 steals with the 76ers.
He has been hampered by serious injuries and confidence issues, leading to his hiatus. He has become a professional angler, even owning a sportfishing team in Florida.
Aside from the 76ers, Simmons is also being linked to the Miami Heat.
While Philadelphia could use more depth in its bench, Simmons might not be the answer. A reunion with the 76ers could be a nice story, but the team is more focused on winning the championship rather than rekindling the past.
