Jhon Lucumi rejected a serious approach from Como as he decided to wait for Juventus, despite the Bianconeri not having made an official approach for the Bologna defender so far.
Lucumi’s current employers owe him a summer move after he agreed to remain with their team despite receiving a tempting offer last season. The defender is also entering the final year of his current contract and has no intention of signing a new deal, meaning Bologna must sell him now or risk losing him as a free agent.
Juventus delay move for Lucumi
Juventus remain active in the transfer market, but they have not yet made a concrete move to bring Lucumi to Turin. This situation means that if the transfer is completed, the defender could miss a significant part of pre-season preparations with his potential new club.
Como presented Lucumi with an attractive offer and reached an agreement with Bologna over his transfer. However, the defender decided against the move because he wanted to continue waiting for Juventus and secure a switch to Turin.
According to Sport Mediaset, Lucumi continues to wait for the Bianconeri because he is determined to ensure that he completes a move to Juventus.
Squad situation affects Juventus’ plans
The report states that Juventus have not made their move for Lucumi because they need to sell players before adding him to their squad. The club currently has enough defensive options available, which has prevented them from making progress in negotiations.
If none of their current defenders leaves the club, the men at the Allianz Stadium will not be able to complete a move for Lucumi. Juventus must therefore resolve their squad situation before they can pursue the Bologna defender.
Lucumi’s decision to reject Como shows his desire to join Juventus, but the Bianconeri must first create space within their squad. Until that happens, the defender will continue waiting for the opportunity to move to Turin.
