Xabi Alonso's side will face the Serie A giants at Kai Tak Sports Park tomorrow (Wednesday), with tickets still available for the fixture. Kick-off is scheduled for 7.30pm local time (12.30pm in the UK), and the contest can also be viewed live on CFC+.
Our final training session ahead of that fixture was scheduled for the evening, once the sweltering heat of the day had eased. But before the squad walked onto the pitch at Kai Tak Sports Park, Alonso and Moises Caicedo conducted pre-match press conferences.
Alonso highlighted the progress being made by his side, although he accepts there is still much work to be done before our Premier League campaign begins at Craven Cottage on 25 August.
He also confirmed Mykahilo Mudryk and Danny Welbeck, who were among the six players to join the squad in Hong Kong on Monday, are in contention to feature in our three remaining tour fixtures.
'Yes,’ Alonso replied when asked if the duo are ready to feature. ‘He (Mudryk) came directly from the airport to the hotel.
'Yesterday was more about the feelings, the emotions to be back with the team more than assessing the fitness level. He could play, maybe 90 minutes too early, but he can be selected. He is selected so he can play.'
Caicedo, who joined up with the squad midway through our time in Sydney, followed Alonso and spoke about the support the Blues have received in Hong Kong.
'The people have been great; we feel like we are at home,' said our Ecuadorian midfielder. 'Everyone here has been very kind. It’s my first time here and I feel at home.
'So to the fans, I want to say thank you for the support and for supporting us even with the time difference, because I don’t think it’s easy for you to watch us in the Premier League. We really appreciate it because we feel and realise the supporters here give everything for us. So I say thank you.'
The players were welcomed out to training by more than 15,000 supporters, who watched on as Alonso's squad were put through their paces.
Among those involved in the session were summer arrivals Geovany Quenda and Welbeck. Mike Penders, who represented Belgium at the World Cup, and Gabriel Slonina undertook drills with their fellow goalkeepers after linking up with the squad this week.
There was a warm greeting for Mykhailo Mudryk, who is back training with the Blues for the first time since December 2024, and Cole Palmer continues to receive a huge ovation from supporters, no matter if that is at the team hotel or out on the grass.
