According to multiple reports on Tuesday, Manchester United Women will soon have a new manager. Reports indicated that former Heart of Midlothian boss Eva Olid is next in line to take over the Reds after the departure of Marc Skinner on Monday.
Skinner reportedly agreed to terminate his contract with the club mutually, and the decision to depart was announced by United on Monday. He led the club for five years and led the team to it’s first taste of European football and it’s first major trophy with the 2024 FA Cup title.
Olid would join the Reds after leading Hearts to the club’s first-ever Scottish Women’s Premier League title in the 2025-26 campaign. The team were bottom of the league in Scotland when she took over in 2021, and on her watch they reached the Scottish Cup Final in 2023 and improved to become champions in her final season.
In a somewhat ironic twist, United’s new manager left her old post after concerns over a lack of investment with the club heading into Europe and looking to maintain their status as champions domestically. While United will be a step up for her career-wise, she inherits a similar situation with the Reds.
There was plenty for fans to complain about with Marc Skinner as manager of United. There was a lack of forward-thinking football holding the team back from competing head-to-head with the best in England and Europe at times. However, a lack of investment and hesitation to extend the contracts of the team’s best players became a frustrating factor as well. That lack of enterprising recruitment while other clubs loaded up on stars was reportedly a point of friction between the women’s team and club hierarchy.
