Baylor Scheierman hosts basketball camp in Hastings

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Boston Celtics guard Baylor Scheierman returned to his home region Monday to host a basketball camp at the Hastings YMCA, working with players from elementary school through high school.

The camp ran in three sessions throughout the day. Third through fifth graders participated from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., sixth through eighth graders from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and high school players from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

For Scheierman, an Aurora High School graduate, the event was an opportunity to connect with young athletes from the same community where he grew up.

“Obviously, being from this area, having a lot of memories here with sports and just the community around,” Scheierman said. “Ultimately, I can just share a little bit of knowledge, hopefully bring some joy to the kids and inspire them to dream big. Because at the end of the day, I was 14 years old, just dreaming that I could do this, even though I didn’t really know if I could or not.”

Each camper had the opportunity to take a photo with Scheierman and get an autograph following their session.
