Manchester United remain interested in facilitating a deal for Newcastle United full-back Lewis Hall this summer.
However, Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic claims Newcastle are ‘privately insisting’ the 21-year-old is off-limits.
Why Newcastle have deemed Lewis Hall untouchable
It comes after the Magpies have already reluctantly sanctioned the exits of key men Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, while talisman Bruno Guimaraes is closing in on an imminent switch to Arsenal.
Eddie Howe departed his role as head coach last week, having decided to call time on his five-year tenure at St. James’ Park amid a summer of wholesale changes.
Lewis Hall is well liked by Manchester United, but a deal looks highly complicated. Sources say Newcastle are now privately insisting the 21-year-old will not leave. As a result, the board will be adamant about now keeping hold of their most valuable assets, including Hall, in order to put themselves in as good standing as possible before the new campaign gets underway.
What’s Hall’s stance on a move elsewhere?
However, it has previously been reported that Hall himself is not only keen on departing Newcastle, but he is also enticed by the prospect of joining the Red Devils.
Doing so would allow him to play Champions League football throughout 2026/2027 while acting as Luke Shaw’s understudy, with a view to eventually becoming the first-choice left-back at Old Trafford.
INEOS have orchestrated only three first-team signings so far this transfer window, with Andrey Santos first through the door in a £50 million move from Chelsea.
He was followed by Belgium captain Youri Tielemans, whose £35m release clause was activated by United, and Karl Darlow subsequently joined as a free agent to play second fiddle to Senne Lammens next term.
Alas, fans are growing impatient with the lack of movement in recent weeks. A statement arrival like Hall would undoubtedly uplift the general mood in M16 just weeks before Michael Carrick’s side is back in action.
