A major London redevelopment site is reportedly being considered as a potential home for a franchise in the NBA's planned European competition.
According to The Athletic, undeveloped land within the Battersea Power Station estate has emerged as one of several possible locations for an arena that could host a future London team.
Discussions have reportedly taken place between intermediaries regarding the proposal, although no final decision has been made and the site remains one of multiple options under consideration.
The proposed arena would be built on undeveloped land within the wider Battersea Power Station complex, separate from the historic power station building.
NBA Europe targeting 2027 launch
The NBA is reportedly targeting the autumn of 2027 for the launch of a new 16-team European competition.
London is expected to be among 12 cities featuring permanent franchises, with significant investor interest already surrounding the potential team.
American technology billionaire Nikesh Arora has reportedly assembled a consortium willing to offer more than $1 billion for the London franchise. Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund is also among the groups previously linked with a possible bid.
Arora, the CEO of Palo Alto Networks, was part of the group that acquired a 49% stake in the London Spirit cricket franchise in 2025.
PIF, meanwhile, leads the ownership group at Premier League club Newcastle United and has continued expanding its portfolio across global sports.

Battersea Power Station was decommissioned in 1983 before reopening to the public in 2022 following an eight-year restoration.
The landmark now houses shops, restaurants, offices and apartments and serves as the centerpiece of a 42-acre development beside the River Thames.
The remaining undeveloped land covers approximately 16 acres and already has outline planning permission for as much as 3.2 million square feet of residential, commercial, cultural and leisure space.
No separate planning application for an arena has yet been submitted.
The Battersea Power Station Development Company is reportedly expected to apply to Wandsworth Council in September to amend the existing planning permission as part of a revised masterplan for the remaining stages of the project.
The site has previously been considered for a major sports venue. Chelsea unsuccessfully attempted to purchase the power station in 2012, proposing a 60,000-seat football stadium that would have incorporated the building's four chimneys.
