Youri Tielemans is all too familiar with what to expect from Paris Saint-Germain ahead of Manchester United’s upcoming friendly against the French side.

The 29-year-old Belgian midfielder was the second major summer signing of the window for Manchester United after the Red Devils activated his release clause.

Youri Tielemans, who represented Belgium at the World Cup this summer, cost the Red Devils a £35m transfer fee before he sealed his move to Old Trafford in July.

The former Aston Villa midfielder was back at the Carrington training complex towards the end of last month after he had recovered from a minor hamstring injury.

Man Utd summer signing Youri Tielemans shows his influence in a meaningful way against PSG while he was at Aston Villa

Youri Tielemans could now be in contention to make his Manchester United debut against Paris Saint-Germain at the Nya Ullevi in Gothenburg on Saturday.

The Belgium international’s last outing against Luis Enrique’s men came during the 2024-25 Champions League campaign with Premier League side Aston Villa.

Tielemans registered an assist for Villa in their 3-1 defeat to PSG at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals in 2025.

Following on from the visit to the Parc des Princes, Tielemans found the back of the net against PSG in Villa’s 3-2 second-leg Champions League victory at Villa Park.

Despite Tielemans’ influence across both legs of the Champions League quarter-finals, Villa crashed out of the competition thanks to PSG’s 5-4 aggregate advantage.

Could Youri Tielemans make his Man Utd debut against PSG like he did when he was at Monaco?

Tielemans crossed paths with Ligue 1 outfit PSG after he had left Belgian side Anderlecht in 2017 and signed for French side Monaco.

The ex-Anderlecht midfielder made his competitive debut against Monaco’s rivals and played the full 90 minutes against PSG in the 2017 Trophee des Champions tie.

Tielemans also picked up an assist for Monaco on his debut after he had set up Djibril Sidibe for his former side’s first-half opener at the Ibn Battouta Stadium.

However, the former Monaco star would see his first competitive match with the Ligue 1 club end in defeat after PSG mounted a second-half comeback in Morocco.

According to StatMuse, Tielemans played against PSG twice in Ligue 1 — once in 2017 and the other in 2018 — before he left Monaco and moved to Leicester City in 2019.
