Michael Carrick makes Patrick Dorgu decision amid Man Utd transfer plans
Michael Carrick reportedly prefers using Patrick Dorgu in a more advanced position at Manchester United, providing further explanation for the club’s pursuit of a new left-back this summer.
Dorgu originally arrived from Lecce as a wing-back under Ruben Amorim but his role changed significantly after Carrick took charge.
He was pushed further forward on the left and produced some of his most encouraging United performances in attacking areas.
The Telegraph now reports that Carrick continues to prefer Dorgu in a more advanced role, rather than viewing him primarily as his starting left-back.

Carrick’s preference makes United’s activity in the transfer market increasingly logical.
Luke Shaw remains an option at left-back, but United have spent much of the summer exploring younger long-term alternatives.
Lewis Hall is the leading target and has been internally approved at Old Trafford, although Newcastle United remain determined to keep the England international.
ReadManUtd reported on Tuesday that Newcastle are privately insisting Hall is not for sale, despite reports valuing the 21-year-old at around £60million.
Jorge Salinas has emerged as one alternative if a move for Hall proves impossible.
Keeping Dorgu higher up the pitch would give Carrick another direct attacking option while allowing United to recruit a more natural defender behind him.
The 21-year-old has already shown that the role can suit his strengths. His pace, physicality and willingness to attack space make him capable of providing width without carrying the same defensive responsibility he would have at full-back.
Dorgu’s versatility still means he can cover several positions when required.
However, Carrick’s preference appears increasingly clear, and it could have a major influence on where United spend their remaining transfer budget.
