Jermaine Jenas has backed Lewis Hall to complete a summer move from Newcastle United to Manchester United, describing a potential switch to Old Trafford as a “great move” for the highly-rated England international amid growing transfer speculation.
The former Newcastle and Tottenham midfielder believes the left-back has developed significantly since joining the Magpies and is now ready to take the next step in his career. Speaking about the reported interest from Manchester United, Jenas suggested Hall would benefit from the opportunity to establish himself at one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs
‘I think it’s a great move for him, I really do,’ Jenas, who spent three years at Newcastle, told 10bet.
‘He’s had a fantastic couple of years at Newcastle. I think he was obviously a huge Newcastle United fan after going there from Chelsea and so on, but he’s one of those players that people looked at and said he should probably be at the World Cup.
‘Like I said, he’s had a good, solid year; his development year-in, year-out seems to be getting better and better.
‘For a club like Manchester United to come in for him is a huge step in the right direction—not only for United, because he’s just consistent week-in, week-out, but it’s also a big loss for Newcastle, I’m not going to lie
‘For him and his personal career, it’s a great move.’
Reports suggest Newcastle value Hall at around £60 million and are reluctant to sanction the departure of one of their most promising young players. However, speculation surrounding the defender’s future has intensified in recent weeks, with claims that he would be open to a move should Manchester United formalise their interest.
Hall enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, cementing his place in Newcastle’s starting XI while also earning recognition at international level with England. His performances have attracted interest from several leading clubs, but Manchester United are understood to be among the strongest admirers as they reshape their squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
Despite Jenas’ endorsement, no agreement has been reached between the clubs, and Newcastle are expected to resist any approach unless their valuation is met. The Magpies continue to regard Hall as a key part of their long-term project, meaning Manchester United would likely need to submit a substantial offer to tempt Newcastle into negotiations.
