Leeds United defender Sebastiaan Bornauw remains a target for HSV Hamburg as they seek a new central defender this summer.
Hamburger Abendblatt report that HSV are urgently seeking reinforcements in defence and the 27-year-old remains on the shortlist.
HSV working to sign central defender
The hunt is on for a replacement for Luka Vuskovic. He was on loan at the German club last summer but has since returned to Tottenham and then moved to Brighton.
HSV now desperately need a replacement. Claus Costa, the club’s director of professional football is working on that front. He spent the entirety of Tuesday morning on the phone during HSV’s training session in Herzogenaurach.
He is using the training camp to hold numerous discussions, both with the current squad and potential signings. Leeds United defender Sebastiaan Bornauw is the ‘prime candidate’ for the centre-back role.
He wants to leave Elland Road to play regularly after a disappointing season last year in which he managed just 433 minutes across 12 appearances. According to Abendblatt’s information, he is one of three or four centre-back’s HSV are ‘seriously considering’.
Leeds United are open to transfer
The belief is that the door for a transfer ‘could be opening again’ at Leeds. They blocked a January exit, but the situation is now different.
Bornauw now likely finds himself as fourth choice following the big money arrival of Tarik Muharemović this summer. He is likely to partner Jaka Bijol in Daniel Farke’s plans, while Joe Rodon is also a competitor for minutes.
Return to Bundesliga is a good solution
A return to the Bundesliga has long been suggested as possible. FC Köln were interested in him January and Sport Witness have already covered reports of that interest being revived.
Now it appears that HSV Hamburg can be added to the list. They’re seeking a man to fill the void left behind by Vuskovic and Bornauw is on the list.
