Man Utd willing to pay £60m for Newcastle player
Manchester United are reportedly willing to pay up to £60million for Lewis Hall despite Newcastle United’s determination to keep the defender this summer.
Michael Carrick remains keen to strengthen at left-back, but Newcastle have privately insisted the 21-year-old will not leave St James’ Park.
That stance has not ended United’s interest. Football365 reports that talkSPORT’s Alex Crook says United are willing to offer as much as £60million for Hall, while Fulham defender Antonee Robinson is being considered as a cheaper alternative.
Man Utd could test Newcastle with £60m Lewis Hall offer
Hall has remained one of United’s leading defensive targets throughout the summer.
ReadManUtd reported on Tuesday that Newcastle were privately insisting Hall would not be sold, despite the England international being highly admired at Old Trafford.
United must now decide whether £60m is enough to change Newcastle’s position.
The Magpies have already lost several important players this summer and appear reluctant to sanction another major departure. Hall is also under contract until 2029, leaving Newcastle with little pressure to negotiate.
However, United’s need at left-back remains.
Patrick Dorgu is expected to operate further forward under Carrick, while Luke Shaw is currently the only established senior natural left-back in the squad.
Crook has suggested Robinson should therefore be monitored if Hall proves impossible to sign.
The Fulham defender would provide extensive Premier League experience and could cost considerably less than the £60m required to test Newcastle.
Hall appears to remain United’s preferred option.
Whether Newcastle can be persuaded is now the bigger question, but United’s reported willingness to reach their valuation suggests the pursuit may not be finished yet.
