Tottenham are eyeing a new No.9 to bolster their forward ranks.
Tottenham Hotspur’s attack has already weakened after they saw Randal Kolo Muani return to PSG following the expiry of his loan at the end of last season. This has left Roberto De Zerbi with two strikers- Richarlison and Dominic Solanke.
Richarlison was the club’s top scorer with 12 goals in all competitions last season, but going by his injury record and inconsistency, De Zerbi cannot trust the Brazilian to deliver the goods consistently again. Solanke struggled with ankle-related issues for the first half of the campaign, before sustaining a hamstring injury that ruled him out for weeks. This demonstrates that neither the England international can be relied upon to stay fit and score goals consistently for the North Londoners.
Bournemouth’s Junior Kroupi is no longer a candidate after sustaining a serious foot injury last month, which has led to the Lilywhites scouring the market for other names to strengthen their forward ranks.
Tottenham make shock enquiry for Manchester United striker
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham made a shock enquiry via intermediaries to gauge whether there was any possibility of signing Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko. However, Manchester United are not prepared to sell their valuable asset.
Benjamin Sesko endured a slow start to life at Old Trafford after arriving for big bucks from RB Leipzig last summer. The Slovenian international found his feet toward the end of the 2025/26 season under Michael Carrick, eventually finishing the year with 12 goals in 32 appearances.
Spurs have made their interest known to Manchester United, while Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also understood to be keeping tabs on the lanky centre-forward. However, INEOS’ stance is that they won’t allow Sesko to leave the club this summer. Instead, the club’s co-owners are eager to bring in a back-up for Sesko, rather than replace him.
Spurs have to be realistic
Sesko is a long-term investment at Man United, and after he burst into life under Carrick and his coaching staff, there is no way INEOS are going to sell him after just one season. At 23, the Slovenian is rated as one of the best young strikers across Europe, possessing the potential to solve the Red Devils’ goalscoring problems.
It would take a proposal of over £100 million to persuade Man United to sell their marksman, and Spurs, having already splashed north of £230 million this summer, cannot afford to do that. This means the N17 bosses have to be realistic and identify the right profiles to improve their attacking options.
As far as alternative targets are concerned, Club Brugge’s Nicolo Tresoldi is wanted by Tottenham. Standing at 6ft 1in tall, Tresoldi is a traditional No.9 with the ability to link up play and run the channels, and he’d be a realistic profile to target.
