Two Premier League giants are chasing the same left-back — and he’s making no secret of wanting to come home.
Left-Back Crisis at Two Clubs
Chelsea and Manchester United are both weighing up a move for Fenerbahce defender Archie Brown, according to Turkish outlet Sabah Spor. Chelsea’s need is glaring: after letting Marc Cucurella join Real Madrid, only the young and unproven Jorrel Hato remains as a natural left-back, with converted centre-back Levi Colwill still working back from a serious knee injury. United’s situation isn’t much rosier — Luke Shaw has battled fitness issues for years and is out of contract in 2027, while Patrick Dorgu looks better suited further forward.
A 6ft 3in Target Who Wants Home
Brown, 24, stands out physically — 6ft 3in, left-footed, comfortable at left-back, left wing-back or even centre-back — and blends a powerful long throw with surging runs from deep. He contributed three goals and three assists in 33 games last season while helping Fenerbahce keep seven clean sheets. Boss Ismail Kartal wants to keep him, but a £17 million valuation could tempt the Turkish side to cash in, especially with Brown reportedly keen to return to England despite a contract running to 2028.
Verdict
Chelsea need a starter, United need a long-term successor to Shaw — but only one of them can land Brown this summer. Which West London or Old Trafford move materialises first?
