David Ornstein drops major Lewis Hall to Manchester United transfer news
It is no secret that Lewis Hall has been linked with a move away from Newcastle United this summer. And to be honest, if it did happen, it would not come as a surprise. Just look at the amount of talent that has chosen to depart St James’ Park recently.
Sandro Tonali has joined Tottenham Hotspur. Anthony Gordon has moved to FC Barcelona. And now club, Bruno Guimaraes, is headed to Arsenal.
It would be safe to say that not many Newcastle United fans would have envisioned it playing out like this. But it has. And now, the best they can do is find a way to come out stronger on the other side.
Of course, some quality additions will be needed for that. But at the same time, there has to be a recognition that no more key players can leave this summer. Hall falls under that category. Unfortunately, when clubs like Manchester United are involved, you can never count anything out though.
Newcastle United handed positive news about Lewis Hall’s future amid Man Utd links
Manchester United will be looking to strengthen their left-back ranks this summer. It has been suggested that Hall is one of their top targets in that position. It is not hard to see why.
Naturally, Newcastle United fans have been left worried about whether the club will be able to keep hold of Hall beyond this summer or not, with Man Utd circling. For a change, there is some good news in that respect.
According to TEAMtalk, transfer market guru David Ornstein said:
“I do not expect Lewis Hall to be coming to Man Utd. Following the departure of Eddie Howe, Newcastle will be more determined to keep him, maybe even tie him down to a new contract.
“At the beginning of the summer, I thought that Man Utd were going to be the busiest team in the market. Just because there’s so much work that needs to be done.
“Midfield and left-back are two of the main areas of importance for them in the market.”
That will be like music to the ears of Newcastle United fans. Of course, it does not guarantee anything. But at the same time, a Hall exit does seem unlikely to happen.
Why Newcastle must keep Hall around
If Newcastle United truly want to build a squad around youth and potential, Hall has to be one of the priorities for them. While it feels like he has been around for a while, the Cobham graduate is still just 21 years of age.
Hall is viewed by many as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League already. And he has the potential to sit atop that list, if he is not there already.
You simply do not let a talent like that leave at 21 years of age. Let’s see if Newcastle United can find a way to agree a new contract with the left-back.
Overall, this is a positive development if you are a Newcastle fan. As for Manchester United, they should start looking elsewhere in their quest to sign a left-back this summer.
