Manchester United legend Patrice Evra has urged his former club to do everything possible to secure the signing of Roma midfielder Manu Kone this summer, with the Frenchman viewed as a potential solution to the club’s search for a final midfield addition.
The Frenchman has emerged as one of the names under consideration at Old Trafford as United continue their midfield rebuild. Reports suggest the France international has been identified as a leading candidate to become the elusive third midfield signing following the arrivals of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos.
Kone’s performances for Roma and France have increased his profile, with his ability to carry the ball through midfield, break up play and provide physicality seen as qualities that could complement Manchester United’s existing options.
The midfielder’s performances on the international stage have reportedly strengthened interest from several clubs, but United remain among those monitoring his situation closely.
United’s recruitment team have reportedly held conversations with Kone’s representatives, although no formal agreement with Roma has been reached. Fabrizio Romano has reported that discussions with the player’s camp have taken place, with the club still assessing how much they can allocate towards their next midfield signing
Evra believes United must do everything they can to sign the £51m rated midfielder. Speaking to GiveMeSport, Evra said: “I like Manu Kone’s profile for the Premier League. He has energy, he carries the ball, he likes duels and he works for the team.
“All of those things matter in England. The Premier League is faster. You don’t get time to breathe. So the important thing is adaptation. Don’t judge him after five games.
“If he goes to Arsenal with a manager who knows how to use him, I think he can do well. He definitely has the tools. Then it is about consistency.”
The move would fit United’s strategy of refreshing their midfield with younger, more dynamic players capable of competing at the highest level. After adding creativity and depth through previous signings, the club are searching for a player who can provide defensive balance and athleticism in the centre of the pitch.
