Manchester United legends and Salford City co-owners David Beckham and Gary Neville have unveiled the Ammies' new home shirt for the 2026/27 season. The Class of '92 purchased Salford in 2014 and have since seen the club rise through the non-league pyramid and into the EFL.
Shortly after their takeover, the new owners controversially changed the club's home kit from orange to red. Since then, Salford have played in the United-esque home strip, but a fan consultation last season saw supporters overwhelmingly vote in favour of reverting to their orange colours.
On Thursday, ahead of Salford's season opener at home to Shrewsbury Town in the Carabao Cup first round, the new home kit was unveiled to supporters. In a video posted on social media, Beckham said: "There we go, a proper shirt. How great is that? I like it, do you think the fans will like it?" "I think they will, yeah," Neville replied.
Beckham, who also co-owns MLS side Inter Miami, was heavily involved in the design of the shirt that is predominantly orange with a black trim. Along with the colour switch, the original badge has also returned with a modern twist that pays homage to the iconic Salford Lads Club, a venue that will always be synonymous with The Smiths.
"I think it is going to stand out," Beckham added. "But do you know what I love about this? I talk about Miami and I talk about owning the colour pink, and now we’re going to own the colour orange in club football.
"We wanted to take it back to that old Salford logo. And when you look at the history of Salford, the lion is so prominent.
"But then we wanted to introduce the rose, because the Salford Lads Club is such an important institution in Salford. So it means something to the people and the community."
Since being promoted to League Two in 2019, Salford haven't quite been able to take that next step. Last season, the Ammies were beaten 3-0 by Notts County in the League Two play-off final to miss out on promotion to League One.
Salford are one of the favourites for promotion this season and have added plenty of quality to their squad. The likes of Luke Molyneux and Macaulay Langstaff have joined from Doncaster Rovers and Millwall as they aim to secure promotion to the third tier.
