It is no secret that Manchester United have admired Aurelien Tchouameni since his emergence at AS Monaco. They have even flirted with the prospect of signing the French star from Real Madrid this summer.
Tchouameni has been United’s standout target all summer, despite a deal always looking difficult to strike. From convincing Real Madrid to cash in to his wages and suggestions of a new contract.
However, there was always a chance, especially if Real Madrid were to step up the chase for Man City’s Rodri.

Barcelona signing Rodri would spoil chances of Aurelien Tchouameni transfer
According to The Athletic, Barcelona are exploring a deal to sign Rodri, in what could be an attempt to scupper Real Madrid’s transfer plans.
It is understood that Barcelona have held talks with Rodri’s entourage over the conditions of a potential deal. This allegedly appeals to the 2026 World Cup winner, although the report explains that Real Madrid remain interested in a deal.
This could have a knock-on effect for United as it would kill any chance of pursuing a deal for Tchouameni.
It remains to be seen if Real Madrid would target another midfielder if Barcelona were to sign Rodri, or if Jose Mourinho would stick with Tchouameni for another season.
United fans will hope that Jason Wilcox has other players in mind because transfer deadline day is just weeks away.
It is worth noting how United conducted deals late last summer, including transfers of Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens, who became crucial first-team players shortly after moving to Old Trafford.

The Reds have 26 days to sign more players before the transfer window closes.
