Manchester United are set to part ways with highly rated goalkeeper Radek Vitek after agreeing a deal with Championship side Middlesbrough. The 22-year-old will complete his medical within the next 24 hours before finalising a move that could be worth up to £14 million.
The transfer is another major change in Manchester United’s goalkeeping department this summer. Vitek returned for pre-season hoping to impress Michael Carrick, but he knew regular first-team football would be difficult to secure. As a result, he chose a permanent move instead of another loan so he could continue his development with consistent playing time.

As reported by The Sun, Manchester United have agreed a deal worth an initial £7 million. The fee could rise to £14 million if Middlesbrough win promotion and Vitek meets certain appearance targets.
The deal also protects United’s long-term interests. The club have included a 35 per cent sell-on clause, matching rights and a buy-back option. These terms would allow United to benefit if Vitek develops into one of the Championship’s best goalkeepers or earns a big move in the future.
Vitek is expected to complete his medical soon. Middlesbrough hope to register him in time for their Carabao Cup match against Wrexham. The deal shows Manchester United still believe in the young goalkeeper’s long-term potential. At the same time, the club know they cannot guarantee him regular first-team football at Old Trafford right now.
Vitek wanted regular first-team football
The Czech goalkeeper has been regarded as one of Manchester United’s most promising academy graduates in recent years. Vitek openly admitted during pre-season that he wanted to become a regular number-one goalkeeper and was prepared to leave either on loan or permanently if the right opportunity arrived.

He returned to Manchester United this summer and trained with Michael Carrick’s first-team squad. However, Vitek knew it would be difficult to become the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. A move to Middlesbrough gives him the chance to play regular first-team football for a side hoping to challenge near the top of the Championship. Goalkeeping changes continue at Old Trafford
