Celtics Rookie Makes Final Decision Amid Return-to-College Rumors image

Dillon Mitchell has made his decision.
There were rumblings that Mitchell, the No. 40 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, could return to college after a recent court ruling granted some Class of 2022 athletes a fifth year of eligibility.
Rather than returning to college, Mitchell has signed a two-way contract with the Celtics.
"We have signed Dillon Mitchell to a two-way contract," the Celtics announced on X.
Mitchell played four seasons of college basketball for Texas, Cincinnati and St. John's (NY). His best season came in 2025-26, when he averaged 8.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
Those stats helped Mitchell earn Third Team All-Big East, Big East All-Defensive Team and Big East All-Tournament Team honors.

Mitchell appeared in three Summer League games with the Celtics. He filled up the stat sheet in one particular game, totaling 24 points, eight rebounds, six steals and two blocks in 29 minutes.
Mitchell will now spend most of his rookie season with Boston's G League affiliate, the Maine Celtics. He can't appear in more than 50 games in the NBA for the Celtics while on a two-way contract.
The Celtics have now used two of three available two-way contracts on their roster.
