Manchester United are eyeing a move for a new left-back heading into the final weeks of the transfer window.
Luke Shaw started every game for United last season in the Premier League, but the Englishman has a long history of injuries and will likely not be able to regularly play multiple games a week as United prepare to return to the Champions League.
Patrick Dorgu can also play at left-back, but various reports claim that Michael Carrick sees the Denmark international as a left winger.
Lewis Hall is United's top left-back target. Roundtable reported last week that United have already held talks with Hall's representatives, and the club has also planned talks with Newcastle regarding a potential transfer this summer.
A deal for Hall is expected to be very difficult, however. Newcastle have already sold Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali this summer, and Bruno Guimaraes is now also expected to join Arsenal in a deal worth £75 million. Given the fact that the Magpies have already lost three key players, they are determined not to lose another in Hall.
United identify Robinson as Hall alternative
With a move for Hall now looking difficult to complete, United are assessing their options.
According to talkSPORT, United could consider a move for Antonee Robinson from Fulham if they are unsuccessful in their attempt to sign Hall.
United's interest in Hall remains, and the Old Trafford hierarchy is willing to pay up to £60 million to secure his signature.
However, with Newcastle already having sold multiple key players, there is no real pressure on them to sell Hall.

United cannot miss out on another top target
It is looking like Hall will soon be added to the list of top targets United have missed out on this summer.
United wanted Elliot Anderson, but they did not pursue a deal because his preference was Manchester City, and Nottingham Forest's asking price was also considered too high. Sandro Tonali was also a player United were keen on, but did not make an offer due to the costs involved in a potential deal. United also spent weeks in talks to sign Mateus Fernandes, but decided not to match Tottenham Hotspur's offer of £85 million guaranteed.
INEOS say they want to win the Premier League title by 2028, but they are certainly not acting like it in the transfer market. There is a need to be disciplined in the market, but United's activity in the market leans more towards a club that is lacking ambition.
The market is very inflated, and that is just the way it is. All of United's rivals are spending big, and United risks falling behind if they don't do the same. United cannot afford to miss out on another top target and therefore needs to do everything possible to sign Hall, even if a deal currently does not look likely.
