Former Manchester United defender heading back to Middlesbrough
The player returning is Clayton Blackmore, who has been confirmed among the former Middlesbrough favourites attending the club’s Legacy Game.
Middlesbrough announced the news through their official website as they prepare to celebrate their 150th anniversary.
The match will take place at the Riverside Stadium on Sunday, 4 October, with two squads of former Boro players facing each other.
Blackmore began his professional career at Manchester United after progressing through the academy.
The versatile Welshman made 186 league appearances during 12 years at Old Trafford and could operate at full-back or in midfield.
He won the Premier League, FA Cup, European Cup Winners’ Cup and European Super Cup during a successful spell with United.
Blackmore joined Middlesbrough on a free transfer in 1994 and helped the club win promotion as First Division champions during his first season.
He made 53 league appearances for Boro and also featured in their 1997 FA Cup final defeat against Chelsea.
The former defender will be joined by several popular names, including George Friend, Geremi, Tuncay, Yakubu and Graeme Souness.
Middlesbrough have stated that more former players and coaches could still be added before the anniversary match.
