Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence has been offered to Manchester United by his representatives, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
The England international had a good World Cup, where he caught the eye with his performances from the left-back position in particular.
The versatile full-back is now eager to secure more playing time, which is a primary reason behind his desire to leave Spurs this summer.
Speaking exclusively to The United Stand, Jacobs has now revealed that Spence has been offered to Premier League clubs via his entourage.
Manchester United and Liverpool have been offered his services, but there is no indication whether either club would like to sign him, as of now.
The 25-year-old had a difficult start to his Tottenham career after arriving from Middlesbrough, but has transformed his fortunes over the last year.
Spence, valued at £35 million, was one of the standout performers for Spurs in their relegation scrap at the bottom of the Premier League and went on to impress for England at the World Cup.
Questions were raised about Spence’s inclusion at the tournament, but he fared brilliantly from the left side of the defence despite being a natural from the opposite end.
United are exploring the market for a proper deputy to Luke Shaw at left-back, considering Patrick Dorgu has been viewed as a left-sided winger under manager Michael Carrick.
Still, we doubt whether the club will proceed with an approach for Spence, who reportedly wants assurances of regular playing time to leave Tottenham.
United have the right-back position well covered with Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui. The former has been the regular choice in the role over the past few years.
Similarly, Shaw is an undisputed starter at left-back for United when fully fit. He started every league game last term and seems to have got over his injury troubles.
As per Jacobs, Spence wants to play week in and week out. United won’t provide that guarantee to the Englishman. The Red Devils may also prefer a natural left-footed solution for the left-back role.
Hence, we don’t see United securing the services of Spence.
