As Lakers guard Luka Doncic prepares for a new season in Los Angeles, he must also prepare for a fight in the courts that could determine how much time he gets to spend with his daughters. For several months now, the NBA superstar has been engaged in ugly legal proceedings with his ex, Anamaria Goltes, centered around disputes over child support and custody rights.
Earlier this week, Doncic received some good news for a change as Goltes officially filed a request to dismiss her petition. It marked a notable step in the proceedings, but just the start of the next phase of their ongoing war. Now, according to TMZ, she’s taking the fight to Slovenia, where she’s pursuing $50 million and an official reduction in Doncic’s parenting rights.
“Anamaria has filed a new claim in Slovenia, and she is seeking $40 million for herself,” reported TMZ. “We assume the remaining $10 million is for their two daughters. Luka has said he’d do anything for his kids, so $10 mil may be realistic for them, but the $40 mil is a whole other story. We’re also told she wants to strip Luka of some of his custody rights. Currently, he has the kids at least 2 days a week, and she wants to reduce it to one day a week.”
The couple never officially got married, but that isn’t stopping Anamaria from chasing the bag. In this case, after losing in the American courts, she’s trying her luck in their home country, and the results could be devastating for Luka. Besides losing tens of millions of dollars, Doncic’s parental rights could be limited more than they already are.
Doncic and Anamaria were together for nearly a decade leading up to their engagement and have two young daughters together: 2-year-old Gabriella and 7-month-old Olivia. While there were no signs of trouble at first, everything changed when the NBA star was traded to the Lakers. As he endured the process of changing cities, Anamaria decided to stay in Slovenia, driving a permanent wedge between the couple. It didn’t help that rumors of infidelity began to surface.
While we may never know the full story of their breakup, the aftermath has been even more dramatic. Even as his ex continues to take legal action, Doncic remains committed to his daughters and supporting them every way he can. He wants to be there for them, and that’s why he’s fighting in the courts as hard as he can.
How this situation will end is anyone’s guess, but it’s hardly the distraction Luka needs right now ahead of the 2026-27 season. With LeBron James gone and Walker Kessler in his place, the pressure will be on the Slovenian star to carry his team and lead them to a top-four finish in the West after averaging 33.5 points, 7.7 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 1.6 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game last season. Fortunately, Luka has played under adversity before, but this legal battle with Goltes puts the anxiety on a whole new level.
What’s important for Doncic is that he does what’s best for his kids, whatever that may be. Regardless of what happens in court, he’s dedicated to supporting their well-being and putting them in a position of success for the future.
