Manchester United have reportedly earmarked Ibrahim Mbaye as a potential signing, but they’ll have to battle Liverpool for his signature. Having spent most of the summer eyeing up midfield reinforcements, it would appear United are casting their net further afield.

With Marcus Rashford’s future still up in the air, and Joshua Zirkzee linked with a move away from Old Trafford, United have started to sound out potential signings in the attacking department. One of those being Ibrahim Mbaye, who caught the eye at the recent World Cup when he dazzled for Senegal.

He is currently on the books at Paris Saint-Germain, but has reportedly told the French side he’d be open to moving on this summer. A versatile forward capable of playing on both sides of the attack, Mbaye is considered one of the brightest talents in European football, with plenty of clubs having taken an interest.

Among them are Liverpool, who have identified Mbaye as a potential transfer target, with the Reds keen to bolster their attack following the departure of Mohamed Salah. As well as team-mate Bradley Barcola, Liverpool want to sign Mbaye this summer, with the Merseysiders keen to add depth to their attack.

Mbaye has a deal with PSG until 2028, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll come cheap, with the Ligue 1 champions notoriously tough negotiators. As far as United are concerned, should they lose Rashford as expected, it will leave them with very few options on the left wing.

Matheus Cunha has operated in that position, but is better suited elsewhere. Meanwhile, Patrick Dorgu has deputised out wide, but isn’t necessarily an out-and-out winger.

United could look to use that in their favour, as they would no doubt be able to promise Mbaye more meaningful minutes in the starting line-up, and the three-time European champions are said to have already started exploring a possible deal. But it isn’t just interest from Liverpool that United will have to worry about, as the likes of Manchester City, Aston Villa, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have been linked as well, as per L’Equipe.

It comes amid a busy summer for United, who have already confirmed six signings since the window opened. Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos are the standout names, with Karl Darlow adding depth in the goalkeeping department.

Kit Margetson, Cristian Orozco, and Tynan Thompson have all arrived as youngsters who the club will look to develop. United kick-start their 2026/27 Premier League campaign away to Hull City in just over two weeks, with their first home match a clash against Ipswich Town.
