Ex-Man Utd striker Louis Saha has drawn comparisons between transfer target Lewis Hall and Patrice Evra.
The Red Devils are weighing up whether to make a move for the Newcastle left-back (who could cost upwards of £60m), and speaking to PariuriX.com, Saha said Hall has plenty of similar attributes to one of his former teammates:
“I really like Lewis Hall, I think he is a very exciting player. He reminds me a lot of Patrice Evra, who was always bombarding forward. He had the mental strength to believe he could both attack and defend very well.”
“Patrice Evra and Lewis Hall play in a very similar style, and I like the fact that Lewis Hall is very comfortable on the ball as well. He is also a product of the new invention Pep Guardiola created, as he can go inside and play in the midfield as well.”
“I think Lewis Hall would give the team the type of diversity the team needs from the back. He can defend very well, but he can also hurt the opponents.”
Getting Hall out of Newcastle may be very difficult
The Magpies have already sold several key players this summer, with captain Bruno Guimaraes expected to follow Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali out the door very soon.
That would suggest that Matthias Jaissle’s team will be very resistant to any more departures. Hall may be keen on a move to Old Trafford, but securing his services for a reasonable price is unlikely.
Man Utd do want to sign a left-back
The club are reportedly set to prioritise strengthening the left-hand side of defence ahead of recruiting another midfielder.
However, trusted journalist David Ornstein says he doesn’t expect Hall to be the player signed, simply because of Newcastle’s determination to keep him.
It does point towards an alternative being snapped up. Fulham’s Antonee Robinson, Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly and Racing Santander’s Jorge Salinas have all been mentioned as potential targets over the past few days.
