Manchester United move for Lewis Hall blocked by Newcastle
A Manchester United move for Lewis Hall has suffered a setback after Newcastle United rejected an enquiry for the England defender.
The Red Devils remain interested in strengthening at left-back, but Newcastle have made it clear that the 21-year-old is not for sale this summer.
Sky Sports revealed on Friday evening that United approached Newcastle about Hall around two weeks ago.
Newcastle rejected Manchester United’s initial enquiry and have told them Hall is not for sale.
Hall has been admired at Old Trafford for several months as Michael Carrick looks for a long-term solution on the left side of his defence.
The England international has three years remaining on his Newcastle contract, leaving the Magpies in a strong position.

Why Manchester United move for Lewis Hall is difficult
United’s interest is understandable.
Luke Shaw is currently Carrick’s only senior specialist left-back following Tyrell Malacia’s departure, while Sky Sports says the club are continuing to assess their options before the transfer window closes.
Hall would offer Premier League experience while still fitting the younger profile United have increasingly targeted.
ReadManUtd previously analysed why Carrick views Hall as a potential long-term answer at left-back, with Newcastle’s reluctance to sell identified as the major obstacle even then.
That obstacle has now become clearer.
United could still consider alternative left-backs, while another midfield addition also remains possible before the window closes.
For Hall specifically, however, Newcastle have drawn a firm line.
There is no indication United have responded with a formal bid, and the Manchester United move for Lewis Hall looks difficult unless Newcastle’s position changes significantly.
