Manchester United are continuing to build towards the new season after an encouraging summer under Michael Carrick.
The Red Devils have already completed five signings, with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans among the new arrivals at Old Trafford.
United are still working on adding a third midfielder as Carrick looks to strengthen an important area of his squad.
Recruitment has slowed recently, though, while another potential addition elsewhere has been ruled out.
United made an approach to Newcastle United for Lewis Hall.
However, the Magpies rejected the enquiry and made it clear the England international is not for sale.
That leaves United assessing other possibilities while preparations continue on the pitch.
The results have certainly been encouraging.
Carrick’s side recently beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 in Stockholm after recording a dominant 5-0 victory over Rosenborg.
Now, another behind-closed-doors fixture has produced an emphatic five-goal performance for Manchester United.

Manchester United’s Under-21s have beaten Ipswich Town Under-21s 5-1 in a behind-closed-doors friendly, according to Nathan Salt on X.
Chido Obi was among the standout performers.
The highly-rated striker scored twice in the commanding victory.
Salt also revealed that midfielder Jim Thwaites was among the goals for United.
The result comes just one day after the report that the Under-21s thrashed Burnley 4-0 at Carrington was published.
A fixture against Aston Villa has also been pencilled in to provide further opportunities to build fitness before competitive action begins.
The Ipswich game was particularly useful because United’s Under-21s are also set to face the same opponents when their league campaign gets underway.
Obi’s brace will also provide another boost for the striker as he attempts to continue his development at Old Trafford.
With nine goals scored across their latest two behind-closed-door fixtures, United’s youngsters appear to be finding their rhythm at exactly the right time.
