Former Golden State Warriors guard Monta Ellis has been announced as the new General Manager at Alcorn State University.
"Today marks the beginning of an incredible new chapter, and I'm truly honored and excited to be named the General Manager for Men's Basketball at Alcorn State University," said Ellis on Friday morning. "Alcorn isn't just a university. It's a place built on history, tradition, excellence, and a legacy that has impacted generations."
Ellis' responsibilities as General Manager will include assisting with roster construction, player evaluation, recruiting strategy, transfer portal decisions, NIL opportunities, alumni and donor relationships, as well as the overall development of student-athletes.
He will also serve as a mentor and resource for players as they prepare for success both on and off the court.
Monta Ellis' memorable Warriors career
Before Stephen Curry became the face of the Golden State Warriors, Monta Ellis was one of the franchise’s biggest stars.
Selected 40th overall in 2005, Ellis developed into an explosive scorer and won NBA Most Improved Player in 2007 after averaging 16.5 points per game. He was also part of the famous "We Believe" team that upset the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks.
Ellis later became Golden State's primary scorer, averaging a career-high 25.5 points in 2009–10 and 24.1 points the following season.
His Warriors chapter ended in 2012, when Golden State traded Ellis to the Milwaukee Bucks in the deal that brought Andrew Bogut to the Bay Area. The move also cleared the way for Curry to become the franchise's unquestioned lead guard.
Ellis later spent time with the Bucks, Dallas Mavericks, and Indiana Pacers before playing his final NBA season in 2016–17. He finished his 12-year career averaging 17.8 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game.
