Racing Santander sporting director Chema Aragon has told Man Utd and other interested clubs to trigger the release clause if they want to sign left-back Jorge Salinas.
The Red Devils are among the 19-year-old’s suitors, and asked about the player’s future, Aragon issued a bullish response:
“He has a contract with us, as you know. So, if they don’t bring the release clause, you know what will happen. We value the assets we have. We consider them important. For the club, at this time, there is no other option than to try to strengthen the team and not weaken it by losing stars.”
“The reality is that the club that wants him has to come with an offer. Hopefully he’ll stay. That would be our dream. We’re going to try everything we can to make it happen.”
How much would Man Utd need to pay?
Salina’s release clause is not that high. It currently stands at €16m (£13.7m), but that figure has reportedly put off Barcelona.
Newcastle, Porto and Atletico Madrid have also been credited with an interest in the Spanish Under-19 international, and it remains to be seen if United, or any of those teams, will decide to pay the buyout fee.
Why is Salinas being targeted?
The Red Devils have been told that Newcastle’s Lewis Hall is not for sale, after an enquiry was made at the end of last month.

Fulham’s Antonee Robinson is also believed to be on the radar, while it has been reported that the Manchester club have been offered Tottenham’s Djed Spence.
