Carrick will be delighted: 23yo Man Utd star set to be fit for PL opener vs Hull City

Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has missed every friendly game this summer.

Sesko suffered a shin injury last season and aggravated the setback during the Premier League fixture against Liverpool in May.

He was again absent from the 22-man squad that travelled to Gothenburg to face Paris Saint-Germain.

Journalist Steven Railston has now dropped a fresh update on Sesko.

He wrote on X: “Benjamin Sesko is still on track to be fit for the start of the season, so there’s no reason to panic. The striker has been stepping up his rehabilitation at Carrington.”

Sesko enjoyed an encouraging 2025-26 campaign with 11 Premier League goals, the joint-highest tally for the club.

Carrick needs Sesko fully fit and available

The 23-year-old spent significant periods on the bench last season because he was not physically ready to complete 90 minutes.

With United potentially facing 50-60 matches across all competitions next season, starting the campaign with an underprepared Sesko would be a major concern.

The Slovenian is the only quality striker at Old Trafford.

Joshua Zirkzee is highly regarded by his teammates during training, but he has struggled to translate that quality into convincing performances on the pitch.

The Dutchman lacks the explosive pace and consistent penalty-box threat expected from a modern number nine.

Sesko has noticeably added muscle this summer, suggesting he has taken the physical demands of English football seriously.

Carrick will need his first-choice striker ready from day one if United are to make a strong start to the new campaign.

Being a striker for a club as big as United is anything but easy.

Confidence plays a huge role, and Sesko will be desperate to avoid a repeat of the difficult first half of last season, when a lack of goals placed enormous pressure on his performances.
