Michael Carrick is reportedly monitoring options to strengthen Manchester United's squad after a quiet few weeks on the transfer front.
The United head coach has already welcomed the arrival of key midfield targets, Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos. United's recruitment department has simultaneously secured elite academy talents for the future in Tynan Thompson and Cristian Orozco.
However, further additions to improve their first-team squad have been lacking in recent weeks. With the new domestic campaign fast approaching, supporters are eager to see if alignment at the executive level can be reached to clinch a new signing. Meanwhile, a significant bid is reportedly set to be tabled for a United target.
Rival bid for target
Despite already recruiting two midfielders, United have parted ways with Casemiro and will be deprived of the injured Manuel Ugarte for the majority of the season. Carrick's side could therefore be pursuing a third reinforcement in the engine room, with Borussia Dortmund and Germany star Felix Nmecha understood to be a target.
However, they could find themselves pipped to the post by Newcastle United in the race for the 25-year-old. Sky Sports Germany have reported that the Magpies are readying a bid for the midfielder after opening talks with Nmecha's representatives.

United's reported pursuit of Nmecha is said to have cooled after it emerged that Dortmund are demanding €100million (£85.8m) for his signature. The Germany international would serve as Newcastle's replacement for Bruno Guimaraes, who is edging ever closer to his £75m switch to Arsenal.
Disagreement over next signing
Internal disputes at Old Trafford may be preventing the club from securing a third midfield signing. United's director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, has urged the club to pursue AS Roma star Manu Kone, yet sporting director Jason Wilcox remains unconvinced by the France international, according to talkSPORT's Ben Jacobs.

Jacobs appeared on the United Stand to discuss the club's transfer activity, claiming that both Wilcox and Carrick favour a signing with established Premier League pedigree, much like Tielemans and Santos.
The Red Devils have been linked with Bournemouth's Alex Scott, though whether United can push through another midfield acquisition before the summer window shuts remains to be seen.
