Michael Carrick is reportedly on the hunt to capture another midfield signing for Manchester United this summer. The United boss already brought in Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos from Aston Villa and Chelsea last month, respectively.

While the Englishman has also secured the youth signings of Tynan Thompson and Cristian Orozco, first-team arrivals have been lacking following the midfield duo. There are just two weeks until United's season-opener against Hull City on August 22, with fans certainly hoping their transfer business speeds up ahead of the new campaign.

Midfield offer

Despite signing two midfielders, United have parted ways with Casemiro and will be without the injured Manuel Ugarte for most of the season. Carrick's side could be targeting a third addition in the engine room, with Borussia Dortmund and Germany star Felix Nmecha a reported target.

However, they could be beaten to the punch by Newcastle United in the chase for the 25-year-old. Sky Sports Germany have reported that the Magpies are preparing an offer for the midfielder after initiating discussions with Nmecha's camp.

United's reported interest in Nmecha is said to have lessened after it was alleged that Dortmund have requested €100million (£85.8m) for his services. The Germany international would be Newcastle's replacement for Bruno Guimaraes, who is inching closer to his £75m move to Arsenal.

Disagreement over midfield star

Internal disagreements at Old Trafford could be stopping them from clinching a third midfield signing. United's director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, has told the club to sign AS Roma star Manu Kone, but the club's sporting director, Jason Wilcox, isn't sold on the France international, according to talkSPORT's Ben Jacobs.

Jacobs appeared on the United Stand to touch on the latest on the club's transfer business, as he claimed Wilcox and Carrick both prefer a signing with Premier League experience, like Tielemans and Santos.

The Red Devils have been linked with Bournemouth star Alex Scott, but whether United manage to secure another midfield addition before the summer window closes remains to be seen.
