HUGE Man United hijacking: Red Devils moves sign£42M star–Personal terms already agreed!

Manchester United are reportedly considering a late attempt to hijack Cristian Romero’s proposed move from Tottenham Hotspur to Atletico Madrid, with reports claiming the Spanish club have agreed personal terms with the Argentina international.

Atletico have stepped up their pursuit of Romero in recent days as they look to strengthen Diego Simeone’s defence, with the Tottenham captain understood to be open to a move to Madrid. Reports have suggested negotiations have advanced significantly, although a final agreement between the clubs has yet to be confirmed.

Manchester United’s reported interest in Romero is not new. The 28-year-old centre-back has previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford, and reports in June claimed the Premier League club were preparing an offer for the defender.

The latest claims suggest United could now attempt to intervene in the deal before Romero completes his proposed switch to Atletico. Such a move would represent a significant late twist in the transfer saga, particularly if the Spanish side have already reached an agreement over the player’s personal terms.

Romero has established himself as one of Tottenham’s most important players since joining the club from Atalanta, initially on loan, in 2021. He subsequently made the move permanent and was appointed Spurs captain ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The Argentine defender also played a key role in Tottenham’s run to the 2025 Europa League title, starting the final as Spurs defeated United 1-0 in Bilbao. He later signed a new contract that was reported to run until 2029.

Despite that long-term commitment, Romero’s future has remained the subject of speculation, with Atletico and Inter Milan among the clubs linked with the centre-back. Recent reports have indicated that Atletico have renewed their interest, while Arsenal have also been mentioned as potential suitors.

For Manchester United, a move for Romero would add an experienced international defender to their options at centre-back. However, any potential deal would need to be negotiated with Tottenham, who would face the prospect of selling their captain to a Premier League rival.

With Atletico reportedly already advancing talks, United would have little time to act if they intend to challenge for Romero’s signature.

At this stage, the reported Manchester United hijack remains unconfirmed, and Romero’s proposed move to Atletico Madrid has not been officially completed
