Forget Vinicius:£300k-a-week striker will be‘top quality’signing for Arsenal–Arteta told!

Michael Owen has urged Arsenal to consider a move for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford after the Gunners reportedly fell short in their pursuit of Vinicius Junior.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of high-profile attacking targets as they continue to strengthen their forward options, but their reported interest in Real Madrid star Vinicius has not resulted in a deal. Former England striker Owen believes the Gunners should now turn their attention to Rashford as an alternative.

Rashford’s future at Manchester United has been the subject of considerable speculation, with the forward having spent time away from Old Trafford amid uncertainty over his long-term position at the club. His situation has subsequently made him a potential option for clubs looking for an experienced Premier League attacker.

Owen believes Rashford could offer Arsenal many of the qualities they would have been seeking from Vinicius, particularly his pace, ability to attack defenders and versatility across the forward line

‘I didn’t see Vinicius Junior to ARSENAL happening, but a move for someone like Rashford would make sense,’ he told Metro.

‘This would be a move I can see happening and makes sense as Arsenal are looking for a left-sided striker.

‘He would fit well into Arteta’s plans and work well with the rest of the squad they have. So I can see this happening if Arsenal were to approach Manchester United.’

The Gunners are not the only club who could be interested should Rashford become available, and his next move is likely to depend on the player’s ambitions as well as the plans of Manchester United.

For ARSENAL, meanwhile, the pursuit of an attacking reinforcement remains an important part of their squad-building strategy. While Vinicius would represent a statement signing because of his status among the world’s leading forwards, Rashford could provide a more familiar Premier League option with a proven record at the highest level.
