Man Utd 1-1 PSG: Mbeumo scores as injury blows hit Carrick

Man Utd 1-1 PSG: Mbeumo scores as injury blows hit Carrick

Bryan Mbeumo scored his third goal in two pre-season games as Manchester United drew 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg.

The Cameroon international cancelled out Ibrahim Mbaye’s early opener, while Mason Mount and Tom Heaton were both forced off injured during a difficult afternoon for Michael Carrick’s squad.

Youri Tielemans also made his Manchester United debut after being introduced during the second half.

Man Utd 1-1 PSG after early setback

United made a poor start and fell behind after just two minutes.

Mbaye finished an early PSG move to give the Champions League holders the advantage before Carrick’s side gradually worked their way back into the game.

Mount’s afternoon then ended after only 19 minutes.

ReadManUtd reported during the game that Mount was forced off with an injury, with Tyler Fletcher introduced in midfield.

United responded well despite the setback and equalised through Mbeumo in the 32nd minute.

Amad provided the assist before Mbeumo finished the chance to continue his impressive summer. Supporters can watch Mbeumo’s equaliser against PSG here.

The forward also scored twice against Atletico Madrid last weekend and is beginning to find rhythm ahead of the new Premier League season.

Live coverage of the game confirmed Mbaye and Mbeumo scored the two first-half goals.

Tielemans makes first Man Utd appearance

Carrick made several changes after the break.

Leny Yoro and Diogo Dalot were introduced at half-time before Bruno Fernandes, Joshua Zirkzee, Harry Amass, Jack Fletcher and Tielemans later entered the game.

Tielemans had started on the bench after only recently returning following Belgium’s World Cup campaign.

ReadManUtd had highlighted before kick-off that the £35million signing was waiting to make his debut, and the midfielder was finally given his first minutes in a United shirt during the second half.

His introduction provided one of the major positives from the afternoon.

United will hope he can build his fitness quickly with two more pre-season games remaining before the Premier League campaign begins.

Carrick handed two injury concerns

Mount was not United’s only injury problem.

Heaton was also forced off shortly after half-time following a collision, with Dermot Mee introduced in goal.

Reports from Gothenburg confirmed both Mount and Heaton were unable to complete the game.

The extent of either problem is not yet known.

Carrick will hope both withdrawals were precautionary, particularly with United already missing several first-team players during pre-season.

The result itself was encouraging against strong opposition.

United recovered well from conceding early, Mbeumo continued his goalscoring form and Tielemans finally made his debut.

The injury concerns, however, will leave Carrick waiting for further news before United continue their preparations against Leeds United on Wednesday.
